Kelpy is an eco sexual wellness company. Our brand ethos is that industries need to do more to make things eco-friendly – the average person is too busy to keep on top of what’s recyclable and where to recycle it. The best way to reduce plastic waste is to reduce plastic use.
Our first project is to bring biodegradable pregnancy tests to market. Pregnancy tests contribute an estimated 130,000-200,000 kg of plastic waste in UK landfills each year and there are no biodegradable alternatives available right now. The technology to create biodegradable and plastic-free tests exists, it’s just not being done.
Kelpy won’t stop there – we intend to expand into all things sexual wellness, and provide vital plastic-free alternatives that are convenient to buy in-store.

The Founder
Penelope Helbest is a Creative Writing Master’s student at the University of East Anglia. Her previous degree in Journalism and interest in science news has made her curious and in the habit of getting to the bottom of things. The question “Why is there no plastic free option?” led her to found Kelpy. She writes speculative sci-fi and fantasy stories in her free time.
